On Kerman's environ is the largest adobe-made castle in the world. It was first established in Sassanid era, though most of its development took place during post-Islamic times. The entire building was a large fortress containing the citadel, but because of the impressive look of the citadel, which forms the highest point of the site, the entire fortress is named the Bam citadel. In 2003 a heavy earthquake destroyed this castle and vanished most of its remained glory. Restoration is still continuing.
